LED Wall Pack Buying Guide
LED wall packs are the workhorse exterior light for commercial and industrial buildings — entrances, loading docks, parking-lot perimeters, laneways and building security. A modern LED wall pack uses 60–75% less energy than the metal halide or high-pressure sodium unit it replaces, lasts 50,000+ hours, and starts instantly in an Ontario winter.
What wattage LED wall pack replaces metal halide?
| Existing fixture | LED wall pack | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 70–100 W metal halide / HPS | 20–30 W | Doorways, walkways, small entrances |
| 150–175 W metal halide | 40–60 W | Building perimeter, side lots |
| 250 W metal halide | 60–80 W | Loading docks, larger perimeters |
| 400 W metal halide | 80–120 W | High mounting, wide lots, truck courts |
Selectable-wattage wall packs let you set the output on site, so one SKU covers several of these jobs.
Full cutoff vs semi-cutoff
Full cutoff wall packs aim all light downward with no uplight — the choice for dark-sky bylaws, residential neighbours and low glare. Semi-cutoff wall packs throw some light forward and slightly up, covering more wall and ground from the same mounting height. They suit security lighting and building façades.
Colour temperature
4000K is the most common for commercial exteriors. 5000K gives crisp, high-visibility security light for camera coverage. 3000K is warmer and friendlier for storefronts and near homes. 3CCT-selectable fixtures let you choose on site.
Photocells, voltage and ratings
- Dusk-to-dawn photocell — turns the light on at dusk and off at dawn with no timer to reset after power outages.
- Voltage — Canadian commercial buildings often run 347 V lighting circuits. Confirm your supply (120–277 V or 347 V) before ordering.
- IP65 or better — sealed against rain and snow. Look for a die-cast aluminum housing rated for -40°C.
- DLC listed — DLC listing is typically required for commercial lighting incentives. See our Ontario LED rebates page.
Mounting height
Small wall packs (20–40 W) work at 8–12 ft. 60–120 W units are best at 12–25 ft. As a rough guide, space wall packs 3–4 times the mounting height apart along a wall for even coverage.

LED Wall Packs — FAQ
What size LED wall pack replaces a 400W metal halide?
An 80–120W LED wall pack typically replaces a 400W metal halide wall pack, using about 70% less energy. A 250W metal halide is usually replaced by a 60–80W LED wall pack.
What is the difference between full cutoff and semi-cutoff wall packs?
Full cutoff wall packs direct all light downward with no uplight, for dark-sky compliance and low glare. Semi-cutoff wall packs spread some light forward and upward, covering more wall and ground area — common for security and façade lighting.
Do LED wall packs work in Canadian winters?
Yes. LEDs start instantly and run efficiently in the cold. Choose an IP65 or better, die-cast aluminum fixture rated for -40°C operation for Ontario winters.
Do I need a 347V wall pack?
Many Canadian commercial and industrial buildings use 347V lighting circuits. Check your panel or existing fixture label — order a 347V-rated wall pack for those circuits, or a 120–277V unit for standard circuits.
Are LED wall packs eligible for Ontario rebates?
DLC-listed LED wall packs are typically eligible for Save on Energy commercial lighting incentives when they replace older fixtures. Program rules change, so check the current requirements or ask our team before you order.
How high should a wall pack be mounted?
Small 20–40W wall packs are usually mounted 8–12 ft high. Larger 60–120W wall packs work best at 12–25 ft. Space them roughly 3–4 times the mounting height apart for even coverage.
