Refund and Return Policy

Effective Date: June 19, 2026 | Last Updated: June 19, 2026

This policy sets out your return and refund rights when purchasing from Safer Lighting Inc. This policy does not limit your statutory rights under the Ontario Consumer Protection Act, 2002 or the Ontario Sale of Goods Act, R.S.O. 1990.

1. Standard Return Window

We accept returns of eligible products within 30 days of delivery for a full refund to your original payment method, provided that:

  • The product is in its original, uninstalled condition with original packaging
  • The product has not been opened, wired, or energized (for safety and regulatory reasons, opened electrical products cannot be restocked)
  • You have a valid order number

2. Return Shipping Costs

Return shipping is the customer's responsibility in the following circumstances:

  • Change of mind or order error on the customer's part
  • Products ordered in excess of project requirements

We will provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you if:

  • The product arrived damaged in transit (must be reported within 48 hours of delivery — see Section 5)
  • We shipped the wrong product (wrong SKU, incorrect specification)
  • The product has a manufacturing defect covered under our Warranty Terms

3. How to Initiate a Return

  1. Email returns@saferlighting.ca with your order number and reason for return. For damaged or defective items, include photos.
  2. We will issue a Return Authorization (RA) number within 2 business days. Do not ship product back without an RA number — unidentified returns cannot be processed.
  3. Ship the product to the address on the RA form. If we are providing a prepaid label, it will be emailed to you at this stage.
  4. Once we receive and inspect the return, refunds are processed within 5 business days to your original payment method.

4. Final Sale Items — Not Eligible for Return

The following items are designated final sale and are not eligible for return or exchange, except where the product has a manufacturing defect covered under our Warranty Terms:

  • Contractor-tier and volume-priced orders: Products purchased under contractor account pricing at volume-tier rates. This designation is displayed on the product page, in the cart, and on your order confirmation before payment is completed.
  • Clearance and as-is items: Products marked "Clearance" or "Discontinued." This designation is displayed on the product page and at checkout.
  • Custom and special-order products: Products ordered to a non-standard specification confirmed in writing before order placement.
  • Installed products: Any product that has been wired, energized, or installed cannot be returned for safety and regulatory reasons (regardless of whether installation was performed by a licensed electrician).

If you are unsure whether your order qualifies as a volume or final-sale tier before purchasing, contact us at info@saferlighting.ca before placing the order.

5. Transit Damage

Inspect all shipments immediately upon delivery. If your order arrives visibly damaged:

  • Note the damage on the carrier's delivery record before signing
  • Email info@saferlighting.ca within 48 hours of delivery with photos of the outer packaging and damaged product
  • Do not discard the original packaging; it may be required for a carrier claim

We will arrange a prepaid return label and replacement shipment for transit-damaged goods. Reporting within 48 hours is required to enable a carrier claim; however, this time limit does not affect your statutory warranty rights against Safer Lighting for defective goods.

6. Refund Processing

Approved refunds are issued to the original payment method within 5 business days of our receiving and inspecting the returned item. Depending on your card issuer or bank, the credit may take an additional 3–10 business days to appear on your statement. Shipping charges paid at checkout are refunded only if the return is due to our error or a product defect.

7. Internet Agreement Cancellation Rights (Ontario CPA)

Consumer customers (individuals purchasing for personal or household use) who entered into an internet agreement with us have rights under ss. 38–40 of the Ontario Consumer Protection Act, 2002. If we failed to provide the disclosure information required under the CPA at or before the time the agreement was entered into, you may be entitled to cancel the agreement. Please contact us at info@saferlighting.ca if you believe this applies to your purchase.
